Alan Chen is a Malaysian born Chinese and a nature lover. Since young, he was always captivated in epic nature sceneries such as Cameron Highlands, Switzerland Mt. Titlis, Germany Mt. Matterhorn and mountains in China, Japan and Korea. As a kid, Alan was fascinated by his father’s Chinese paintings collections and started painting Chinese “Shan Shui” drawings using different medias such as water colors, sketches and even pen brushes on paper.

He was exposed to western painting styles, abstraction and cubism during his secondary school in Singapore. The love of nature was even more elevated during his university years in Perth, Western Australia. Perth is a great city with beautiful natures and naturally vibrant colors such as Sky Blue Skies, Leaf Green fields and Pumpkin sunsets.

After some years back in Malaysia, Alan decided to relive the childhood artistic passion. He started doing tributes of Jackson Pollock’s, a great western paainter, drip paintings. Alan decided to combine Chinese “Qi-Yun” with drip painting expression and did a series of drip painting abstractions out of his own creativity. However, as a Chinese, Alan felt the strong emotion to combine Western Abstraction and Chinese elements. In 2019, Alan started to express Chinese “Shan Shui” with dynamic brush strokes, heavy textures, vibrant and monochrome images.

I am documenting a scene onto the visualisations. The artworks contain compositions, elements of art, sizes, forms and a contrast of black and white. My subject matter is feather and I implemented the element ofmovement, whichsymbolizes purity, freedom and growth. I work in paper clay for its suppleness, delicacy and strength. Paper clay’s willingness to be transformed, both in form and texture, makes it a perfect medium for exploring the iconic meaning of feathers and the concept of movement. My goal is to inspire those who seemy work to look more carefully at the world around them, to discoverbeauty in unusual places.

In 1977, Wen Shu was born in a rural village in Heilongjiang Province, the coldest part of China. At the age of 5, he drew his very first 3D house with the guidance of his father and from then on he fell in love with painting. His biggest childhood dream was to be able to paint everyday... but life is very much unexpecting. He grew up to major in environment arts and became a famous interior design after he graduated.

He believes that art itself has its own language.
''When you first see the artwork, an automatic evaluation takes place in your inner heart, that is the message that this artwork is conveying to you. It can be a good feeling or something more neutral. Art is subjective, it varies from person to person and that is why art does not need to be understood. Sometimes, the painter himself does not understand but what he understands is the emotion felt at that very moment. Whether you're feeling happiness, sorrow, angry, worried, compassionate or loved, all these emotions are reflected into your behaviour and your art.''
